Chicago, T. S. Denison & Co. 1889. Paperwraps, sewn, illustrated cover. 8.7 ", 43 pp., ads. Scarce: Worldcat shows one copy in existence. Play text plus music for nine songs, inc. Ho for Fairyland, Fairy Bells, I'm a Fairy, Gaily Carol We, etc. Not too silly lyrics: Elma wishes she could escape from her boring life of work to be a fairy. The Fairy Queen transforms her, but she soon learns that fairies work too, painting flowers for the seasons. She is discouraged by the work and doesn't know the proper colors, and keeps getting things wrong. An impish fairy named Puck helps her get it all wrong, at last she is transformed back to being a mortal girl. The book contains detailed descriptions of characters, costumes, and settings, and full instructions for staging. It has musical scores and words for eight songs. A rare copy of a delightful operetta suitable for children to perform. . Very nice and clean: flawed by a large chip at bottom of rear cover, otherwise very clean, unwrinkled, unmarked, on… Read More

Mt. Pleasant, SC, 1972, apparent 1st printing.. Paperback, 8.5", 71 pp. -- Shouting", swaying, tapping of the feet and patting of the hands - all part of the rhythmic movements of the body which set the Gullah Spirituals apart from any other native usic. The exact origin of these Negro Spirituals varies with which theory you choose to believe. But one thing is for certain.these Low Country sounds are distinctly African in their heritage and decidedly enriched with their religious beliefs as well as the Gullah dialect. Gullah Spirituals have been heard as far north as Myrtle Beach down through Charleston to the Savannah River as well as in the Sea Islands of John's Island, Hilton Head, Edisto and St. Helena. . .
