Lovely early copy of Vade's "poissard" songs, poems, dialogues, etc. 12mo. 216 pp. With five copper engraved plates, one of which is a frontis portrait of Vade, the other four, street scenes. Vade invented the poissard genre, which reveled in the more vulgar vernacular of literally, the fish-wife, and sought to dignify the lives, joys and trials of more common people. Minor soiling scattered. Light wear to contemporary red morocco.

New York: Edmund Jones & Co., 1862. Full Morocco. Very Good. 775 pp. With numerous color and tinted plates and fold-outs, including color illustration of New York Harbor and City Hall (an inset). Of particular interest is series of illustrations pertaining to the construction of the aquaduct and reservoir, and part of this is a depiction of the building of High Bridge linking the Bronx and Manhattan, a bridge of soaring beauty now visually ruined by the spaghetti loops of the Cross Bronx interchange. Also there are several plates of Civil War interest such as a depiction of the departure of several regiments in different plates. The red morocco is bright and lustrous on boards, where there is in gilt embossed the name of the original owner (Alderman George Moore) and the donor. The spine is duller but still healthy overall, with one splotch of surface loss and a crack in the upper tip now repaired but still noticeable. The interior is tight and generally quite clean..

Considerable age toning to pages, as norm. Dampstain marks on margins of several plates, not affecting images. Library stamp on bottom foreedge. Cloth has considerable soiling and a dampstain on front board. With small loss on spine. Black-out areas on FEP.

Compilation of 460 original watercolors of Delftware tiles, with a wide cross-section of the styles associated with Delftware and in total, representing in excess of 150 designs (since most, but not all designs, are achieved by a combination of tiles, generally four but sometimes more, and here each individual tile is a separate mounted paper). Designs include geometrics, flowers, foliage, fruits, animals (especially birds), people, castles and other buildings, ships, landscapes, mermaids, blueware, multi-colored designs, etc., and including tiles with a strong Italian and majolica influence. Vorsteliicke Warande with 125 half-page copper engraved emblem plates; De Helden Godes, with vignette title and 38 copper engraved biblical emblems; De Wiernieuwde Gulden Winckel with vignette title and 73 half-page copper engraved biblical emblems. The two other works with vignett title and letterpieces. Emblems of Vorteliicke Warande especially charming, with most portraying animals with anthropomorphic brio. Landwehr 886, 877. This set has bookplate from Landwehr and was his personal copy. Calf spine dry and rough. Joints dry, rubbed and cracked. Interior is tight and attractive.

N.d., 1930. 8vo. 22 by 13.5 cm. 220, [1] pp. Nine b/w illustrated plates. Only institutional copy found on OCLC First Search at BNF. Condition: brown/tan morocco rubbed along edges and joints. Some scratches on spine. Interior is tight and clean, with to be expected age toning.

Novel about Indiana born countess returning to her small town American birthplace, the cultural divide between her and the townsmen and her affair there with a much younger man. Cocking to binding. Otherwise, generally clean and tight.

These cards are 9 by 13 cm. The print technology used for the plates coming with the book was photo lithography. The text comes with a still useful bibliography of costume books. This copy is disbound but otherwise the plates are all in fine condition. Minor wear, creases and like to some of the caption sheets. DJ with minor corner chips and now protected with mylar. Still, a tight and attractive copy.

Siena: Presso Vincenzo Pazzini Carli e Figli, 1783. First Edition Presumed. Hardcover. (Half patterned paper.). Very Good. Scarce, with no copies located on OCLC First Search. (Given ambiguity of the title, search terms were broadly "Pazzini Carli" and "Poesie", which should have picked up any copies. We have found copies of a collection of sonnets relating to the same event, but this work, issued in octavo format, is clearly different than the one on offer here.) 4to. 30.5 by 21.5 cm. [10], LXXIII (78) pp. An anthology created in honor of a wedding, the work contains 28 poems, many of which are accompanied by a finely rendered copper engraved illustration, and a few also decorated with lovely tailpiece vignettes. Very Good. 8vo. vii + 267 pp., with biographies of Cimabue, di Lapo, Giotto, Orgagna, Ghiberti, Brunelleschi, Niccola e Giovanni, Donato, Frate Giovanni da Fiesole, Perugino, da Vinci, Raffaello da Urbino, Andrea del Sarto. Binding very tight. Pages toned, clean. Light soilage on cream colored cloth, which is over marbled boards. Very good overall.

Paris: Librairie A. Rouquette, 1895. First Limited Edition. Half Morocco. Near Fine. One of 100 copies issued on Japon paper, with extra suite of illustrated plates on chine paper. 8vo (21 by 14 cm), 41 pp, not counting the extra suite. With superb vignette color illustrations by Morin depicting characters at a masque described by Vaucaire's witty verse. Many of the characters derive from the Commedia dell'Arte (Pantalon, Arlequin). The entirety of the production captures the spirit of the Belle Epoque or Fin de Siecle, at least as we like to remember it. Complementing the work itself is the spine decoration of masked figures linked by a floreate vine. Some foxing on the chine extra suite leaves. The half morocco leather is sunned. Spine gilt decorations, though, remain vividly bright.

Overall, tight and generally fresh and sound internally.

Text rendered in French, Latin, Dutch and Italian on facing pages to plates. Title written in ink on spine. A bit of grime on the spine's vellum, and less so on the boards. Moderate age toning to the leaves' perimeters. Vellum edges exposed on inside of boards. Soiling to the page edges. Some finger smudges in margins. Inscription dated 1882 on FFEP.
