Fairbairn's Crests of the leading Families in Great Britain and Ireland and Their Kindre in Other Lands
Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Publishers. Two volumes in one book. CR 1963, title date 1963, previous owner has glued in his family crest on the endpapers along with address label and calling card. He has put the family crest throughout the book, not affecting text. (Name was Shelburne from North Carolina). First published in 1859 it is indispensable for anyone intereted in researching heraldry. Also a source for the artist, craftsman and designer and is a means of identification in portraits, heraldic book binding and bookplates, embellishment of silverware, seal rings and many other items. 613 pages with appendix of additions, and corrections, 137 plates with crests in front then the index to the crests, ornamental letters, monograms and heraldic illulstrations. genealogy and history of the Haggard Family in England and America from 1433 to 1899
CR 1899. Records of the family and when the Haggard and Harpster family married into it. There are two (2) of these books. One has a written note in the front "Presented to Mrs. M.E. Davis by the author" to which is added "and passed down to Raymond Burns Harpster" with other notes in the back also, about marriages and births and where people lived in 1952. This copy is extremely worn and loose but complete. Covers are spotted, inside hinges are very loose. 136 pages, David Haggard frontis and other portraits. Second copy is clean, slightly loose front hinge, front endpapers missing along with the frontis. Notes written on front "For my son Everett A. Weathers" on title page is written, "This book, property of Georgia Harpster Weathers daughter of Tirzaha)(sp) Haggard Harpster and descendents of Granville Haggarad". Writing on page 116 concerning genealogy and on back blank page is written deaths of Haggards. Both of these books were owned and passed down through two different families. Also included with these two books are two small manilla envelopes with antique pictures (about 6 of them) and newspaper clippings (old), concerning the Haggard family. Most of the pictures have names on the back of them. Haggard was from Ware, England, a direct descendent of Sir Andrew Ogard (Haggard) from Denmark who was naturalized. James Haggard left England in 1698 and took a merchant ship bound for Norfolk, Virginia.. First Edition. Hard Cover. (more information)
