The charter of the original Connecticut Colony granted a strip of land aboaut 75 miles wide extendng from ocean to ocean. In 1786, Connecticut ceded the bulk of her Western lands to Congress, but reserved a sizable strip for herself in what is now Northern Ohio by the shore of Lake Erie and the 41st parallel (south of present Youngstown).
