Philadelphia: Universal Book and Bible House, 1919. Blue decorative cloth with gilt stamped titles and decorations. Illustrated with full-color and b&w plates. A sample, or 'salesman's dummy,' containing select chapters and illustrations from the complete book for the purpose of obtaining orders from prospective buyers. It was a lot simpler to lug the sample from door-to-door than a case full of books! A look back at WWI shortly after its close, this book has many color plates of artists' renditions of various battlegrounds: the Ardennes, the Marne, etc. There is an introductory letter from Gen. Pershing, lots of black and white photos of soldiers and the theatre of war, and numerous facts and figures about the different battles. The back of the book has blank lined pages for orders.. Cloth.
