Deep Background
New York, New York: St. Martin's Press, 1999 SIGNED, DATED AND PERSONALLY INSCRIBED COPY of veteran national political journalist David Corn's first novel (his short story, "My Murder," was nominated for an Edgar Allen Poe Mystery Writing Award in 1997). Fellow novelist and newsman Jim Lehrer, called the novel "a page-turning thriller from first word to last. It's full of well-developed characters--both heroes and villains--doing things that bring some of the worst parts of what is Washington vividly alive." Book is in VERY GOOD TO BRAND NEW CONDITION. 2) The Lies of George W. Bush: Mastering The Politics of Deception
Corn, David

The Lies of George W. Bush: Mastering The Politics of Deception
New York, New York: Crown, 2003 BRAND NEW, PERSONALLY INSCRIBED, DATED AND SIGNED COPY of David Corn's ground-breaking and bestselling expose of the lies and deceptions that helped propel George W. Bush first into the White House, then into the deadly quagmire of Iraq. Certain to become a classic, since Corn was the first author to peek behind the Bush administration's curtain of lies and report the truth about the untruth. In the words of reviewer Arianna Huffington, "'The lies of George W. Bush' nails the case. Mixing cold, hard facts with a rapier wit, David Corn skewers Bush, using the president's own words and deeds to prove that the straight-shooting candidate who vowed to restore honor and intregrity to the Oval Office has, instead, turned out to be a serial liar. Meticulously researched, "Lies" sets a crooked record straight and shows that Saddam's WMD's are not the only thing missing--so is honesty in the Bush White House. Bush bashers, your ship has come in. Bush backers, I dare you to read this." Book is SIGNED, DATED, AND THUSLY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE BOOK'S TITLE PAGE: "He's still not telling the truth!" Because Corn was the first American nonfiction writer to publish a book-length expose of Bush's monumental deceptions, this book will surely become a classic! STATED FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING by the numbers. Cream and burnt umber boards are embossed with rich gold foil lettering. The publisher's sun symbol is also embossed in gold foil at the base of the spine. Cream-colored dust jackets bear a truncated, horizontal photo of President Bush's face, showing only a pair of narrowing eyes, eyebrows, cheeks, part of his right sideburn and the bridge of his nose, the partial portrait wearing an expression reminiscent of Wile E. Coyote. Dust jacket is in a protective cover, unclipped, and shows book's original $24 purchase price. All Best Inscriptions Books orders are bubble-wrapped and shipped in boxes. Signed by Author. 3) Hubris
Corn, David & Isikoff, Michael

Hubris
New York, New York: Crown, 2006. BRAND NEW COPY OF STATED FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING (by the numbers) SIGNED BY BOTH AUTHORS ON TITLE PAGE!! This nonfiction bestseller was reported and written by two of the nation's top political journalists, who expose and document the stunning arrogance, deception, and fatally flawed, secret decisionmaking that led the United States into the deadly quagmire of Iraq. David Corn, editor of "The Nation" and author of the 2003 national bestseller, "The Lies of George W. Bush" (also available at Best Inscriptions Books) and "Newsweek" political reporter Michael Isikoff, together have ripped whatever may have remained of the emperor's new clothes off Bush No. 2, while investigating the actual reasons behind the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. "Hubris" takes the reader behind the scenes at the Bush White House, the CIA, the Pentagon, the State Department, and Congress, to answer all of the vital questions about how the Bush administration came to invade Iraq. Filled with new revelations, "Hubris" is a gripping narrative of intrigue that connects the dots between George W. Bush's expletive-laden outbursts at Saddam Hussein, the bitter battles between the CIA and the White House, the fights within the intelligence community over Saddam's alleged weapons of mass destruction, the startling influence of an obscure academic on top government officials, the real reason CIA agent Valerie Plame was outed by a high-ranking White House official, and a top reporter's ties to wily Iraqi exiles trying to start a war. It is the inside story of how President Bush took the nation to war, using faulty and fradulent intelligence. It is also a news-making account of conspiracy, backstabbing, bureaucratic ineptitude, journalistic malfeasance, and, especially, arrogance. This exhausitivley researched, fully-documented, account is arguably the best-written, most fully documented, account to date of what really went on behind the scenes at the Bush White House. Book is Signed and dated by Both Authors on the title page. Stated First Edition, First Printing (by the numbers). Unclipped dust jacket shows original purchase price of $25.95. Jacket is in a protective cover. All Best Inscriptions Books orders are bubble-wrapped and shipped in boxes. Signed by Authors. First U.S. Edition, First Printing. Hard Cover. Thunder
New York, New York: Warner Books, 1994 A BRAND NEW, SIGNED AND DATED COPY of James Grady's 11th suspense novel. In his second, post-Cold War, spy thriller (following "River of Darkness") , Grady traces the increasingly desperate efforts of the Company's official liaison to the U.S. Senate, to track down the killer of a trusted CIA colleague, while trying to avoid becoming his next victim. Publisher Warner Books aptly describes "Thunder" as "an emotionally charged superthriller whose most compelling protagonist is our nation's capital itself." Upon its 1994 publication, John Grisham called "Thunder" an "unswerving story of conspiracy and suspense that . . . proves beyond a doubt that James Grady is a master of intrigue." James Ellroy deemed Grady's spy thriller his "best novel by far," representing a "massive stylistic leap" for the author. A third reviewer, novelist Nelson DeMille, said Grady's evocation of the New World Order "will make you nostaligic for the simpler days of nuclear brinkmanship." 8) Hard Bargains
Grady, James

Hard Bargains
New York, New York: Macmillan, 1985. SIGNED, DATED and UNIQUELY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE TITLE PAGE: "Every bargain counts." This is a wonderful copy of suspense writer James Grady's 7th novel, in which Washington, D.C., private eye John Rankin accepts an assignment from a femme fatale with a very unusual request. A synopsis states that the lady's name was "Cora McGregor--or so she said. She was a classic femme fatale--beautiful, tough, mysterious--and eager to hire Rankin. But what she wanted to know made him suspicious: not who killed a prominent Washingtonian, but how well the killer covered his tracks. Rankin takes the job--more out of fascination with his client than with her case. He begins the case as the hunter; he becomes the hunted." This copy of Grady's novel is a First Edition/First Printing (by the numbers line) in As New condition. Boards are black and red with silver foil lettering. Dust jacket, encased in a protective sleeve, is perfect except for barely noticeable yellowing on the inside edges of the front and back flaps. Unclipped jacket shows the original purchase price of $15.95. Front of jacket shows a photo of a man's outstretched hand against a pebbled sidewalk, inches away from a set of car keys. One reviewer credits the author with creating "a complicated labyrinth in which every double cross breeds a hydra-headed helix of treachery;" while another said Grady's newest spy thriller: "Reads like a charging rhino," while providing "a guided tour of the sewers of the CIA--a river of darkness where we all drink." The publisher accurately synopsizes the novel as "a gripping thriller about an agent marked for death and a chilling look at what Grady--as a former investigative reporter for syndicated columnist Jack Anderson--has uncovered about the CIA's dirtiest tricks, most secret deals, and darkest of covert operations."
