AMC GUIDE TO FRESHWATER FISHING IN NEW ENGLAND How and Where to Fish in all Six New England States

Contents are clean and unmarked. ; Light tan, full-color photo illustrated cover is about the weight of posterboard. LARGE PAPERBACK. Bibliography. A few drawings. FISHING . Broadly speaking, New England's freshwaters can be divided into warm and cold. Some species, like landlocked salmon or trout, seldom prosper where water temperatures exceed 60 degrees Fahrenheit. These fish thrive in the infertile, oxygen-rich lakes and streams at higher elevations or in wates fed by cold springs. In contrast, most species - including largemouth bass, pickerel, and catfish - thrive in warmer water, farthur downstream or in still lakes and ponds at lower elevations. From the estuaries, an environment alternately fresh and salinated by the turning of the tides, anadromus fish migrate upstream into fresh water to spawn in spring and fall. This books's chapters are arranged so you swim upstream from the estuaries, over the dams and into warm water, and finally up the icy tributaries and lakes of the high country. To help you find species near you, the waters are listed by proximity to nearby towns. In nothern Maine, ponds and lakes are arranged by couny as well. Loosly laid in are three 5-page, 4X9" AMC guides: TRAIL ESSENTIALS (An AMC Guide to Hiking Safety & Comfort) , STEP BY STEP (An AMC Introductory Guide to Hiking) , and FAMILY ADVENTURE CLUB (An AMC Guide to Hiking with Children) . ; 9" Tall; 272 pages . more information

More than a hundred b/w photos & drawings. FISHING. "Over the years, the publisher, editors and contributors of the IN-FISHERMAN Magazine have pioneered the art of walleye angling. Most major breakthroughs were either published first in the magazine or spearheaded by one of its people. Therefore, probably no one was more qualified to compile a complete book of WALLEYE WISDOM...Throughout the book we make use of the IN-FISHERMAN classification system of lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, and our Calendar Period format, to exactly explain specific circumstances - in terms of when (what season, what time of day, etc. ) , and where (the exact structural locale) . In this way, when we explain 'presentation' (how to go about catching the walleye) , the reader will be able to visualize exactly under what circumstances to apply that specific method. No guesswork here! WALLEYE WISDOM is at once a reference guide and a handbook. It is meant to be read for backgrond material and to act as a tutor for practical applications on the water. For a year, Moorhouse worked as a deep-sea fisherman, sailing out of a New England port to harvest the rich bounty of Georges Bank, 200 miles off the coast of North America. Out of his experience he has written this book: at once a detailed documentary, a hauntingly lyrical narrative, and an ageless tale of fishermen and their people that might have been told of any port in the Western world. Brilliant reportage of life aboard a small, modern deep-sea fishing boat, and an evocation of a life as archetypal as the cowboy's, this book is no less perceptive in its picture of an evolving town - its life and fortunes defined by the sea. ; 8-1/2" Tall; 275 pages . more information
