A few photos & figures in text. SCIENCE. Foreword by Isaac Asimov. Dr. Immanuel Velikovsky developed a theory that the Biblical account of the Israelites' flight from Egypt carries the record of great natural catastrophes. He became convinced that these catastrophes arose from close encounters of Venus with Earth during a time when Venus, ejected from Jupiter, had not yet settled into its present, almost circular , orbit. His theory was attacked by respected scientists. An American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) symposium was held in 1973 on Velikofvsky's theory. "Had we been able to publish all of the symposium papers in one volume, the title 'World Views in Collision' would have been most appropriate. As it is, the colliding views can be seen here only from the side of those who do not subscribe to Velikovsky's theories...Carl Sagan has slighly expanded and revised his contribution, but his ten objections to Velikovsky's theories remain the same ten he presented at the AAAS meeting in San Francisco.
