Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Rendered in Engliah verse by Edward Fitzgerald. The text of the first edition illustrated by Arthur Szyk
New York: The Heritage Club, 1940. This is the true first edition not the Heritage Press reprint of 1946. Curiously The reprint uses the same newsletter as the original edition. The plates in the original edition glow whereas they are muted in the reprint. The plates in the original edition are tipped in not so in the reprint. The back of the title page of the original edition reads:" Printed and made in Great Britain." In the reprint it reads : The special contents of this edition are copyright 1946, by The Heritage Press for The George Macy Companies Inc, " The bindings and the slipcases are quite different. Here is an example of a Heritage Press reprint not being a title from The Limited Editions Club editions. Gilt decorated pictorial boards. Slipcas covered in blue paper. A little fading to the edges of the slip case otherwise fine. 4to. 38 pp. 8 tipped in color plates. The illustrations for this edition were drawn in colour and gold by Arthur Szyk, and printed in London by the Sun Engraving Company.
