This was the 3rd season of the Ballets Russes in Paris preceded only by the 1909 and 1910 seasons and was to date the most successful season. It was also the 6th overall season for this company of ballet dancers. The roster of names i.e. the dancers, choreographers, composers and designers is a Who's Who of Ballet in the 20th century. There were many firsts for the aforementioned. The dancers were led by the geniuses Vaslav Nijinsky and Tamara Karsavina. Igor Stravinsky composed Petroushka for this Paris season, its world premiere, with Vaslav Nijinsky dancing the title role for the first time. The ballets performed for the first sequence were: Carnaval, Narcisse, Le Spectre de la Rose and Sadko, June 6, 8, 9, 10, 1911. The ballets performed for the second sequence of ballets were: Petroushka, La Bataille de Kerjenetz, Le Spectre de la Rose and Scheherazade, June 13, 15, 16, 17, 1911. Tipped in is the revised program for the printed original which was changed at the last moment. The printed original is also present as part of the original program. more information
