Texts by Maurice Lemaitre, Christiane Guymer and others

Paris: Fondation Bismuth-Lemaitre, 2001. This collection of Lemaitre's texts and visual art pieces is a kind of catalogue raisonne. Printed paper wrappers. fine. 4to. 157 pp. printed one side only i.e. if one counts both sides there are 314 pp. Profusely illustrated in color & b/w. In order to make this volume available as economically and as rapidly as possible the author's typescripts have been reproduced in their original forms. This method unfortunately has its typographical limitations but it is hoped that they in no way distract the reader. ' "A Few Remarks On This Edition: We have learned from past experience in the cultural and artistic avant-garde that today, as yesterday, despite what the"Milieu" of Art-official (curators, etc.) or private (auctioneers, vendors, the medias, etc.)-maintains, we can find old and young artists who are being crushed by the unfair power of the"Milieu". A s a reaction, creators who keep promoting their own works, and indeed cannot tolerate with the silence upon them, the misunderstanding or attacks of pure clamour sometimes, they have decided to publish their own texts or reproduction of their annotated works, representing the essential of their contribution to the domain in their own eyes. Their means are, by definition of course, inferior to those of commerce and industry in the present atmosphere, but this renders these apparently temporary and short-lived publications even more worthwhile. These publications, ahead of their time, are given great credit, and later found archived in the glass cabinets of future retrospectives, and often hunted at high prices by collectors. The book presented here belongs to this rare category. It should not be frozen in time, linked indefinitely to the date of its own publication. The authors maintain their right and pleasure to add new contributions as they wish and see fit in terms of their own creative necessity. From this point of view, it is interesting to note the publication date of this particular copy in your personal possession. more information
