This copy is good, with edge wear, corner bumping, usage light scratching and dust discolouring to cover. Edges yellowed, grayed by dust and usage. 283 pages illustrated with numerous black and white photos. 31 b/w photos by Herbert Ponting. Some copies of this book have 3 maps at the back. This copy no longer has these. This is the story with pictures of Robert Scott's expedition to Antartica. This was Scott's second expedition, having originally made an unsuccessful attempt in 1901 to reach the South Pole. In 1910 he organized another antarctic expedition. Backed by the British and dominion governments his expedition set sail in June 1910 on the sailboat the, TERRA NOVA. In November 1911 Scott and 4 companions began traveling south by man hauled sledge. Delayed by bad weather, they reached the south geographic pole on January 17, 1912.. Reprint. Hard Cover.
