Oregon: Oregon Historical Quarterly Light brown paper wraps, quality buff paper pages. 10 pages, a reprint from the Oregon Historical Quarterly, Vol XXX, No 3, 1929. Reprint not dated but fairly contemporaneous with original publication. Very good condition with just a hint of rust at staples and very small edgewear. Was Captain Gray or Captain Baker (of the Jenny) the first to enter the Columbia River? This booklet describes two voyages of the Jenny (out of Bristol), including visits to the Northwest Pacific Coast. An interesting bit of Americana, with mention of Captains Vancouver and Gray, along with Captain Baker and Captain Adamson (for the second voyage).. Reprint Edition. Paperbound. Dark brown cloth hardcover with black spine cloth, titles in gilt, deckled edges. 518 pages with maps, portraits, and B&W illustrations; indexed. This volume brings together everything extant relating to the voyage of the Columbia and the Washington, 1787-1790, and the second voyage of the Columbia, 1790-1793, and includes the logs of Haswell, Hoskins, and Boit. It also contains the remnant of the official log of the Columbia, May 7-21, 1792, covering the discovery of the Columbia River, and numerous other related materials. CONDITION: Very good plus, clean and tight with a few small nicks to fore-edge covers and upper corners worn, gilt slightly faded, deckles have absorbed a bit of dust. This book was published to promote Fremont during his presidential bid. It covers his five expeditions, h is activities in California, and his tenure as Senator, and more. Frayed with some fabric loss at spine ends, corners worn, tissue guard missing from frontis, signature springing about 3/4 of the way through the book.
