Why Snails Have Shells: Minority and Han Folktales from China
Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A.: Univ of Hawaii Pr, 1993. Hard Cover. New/No Jacket. Ji, Li. The twenty stories that comprise this collection reflect some of the ethnic diversity of China. Through a cast of familiar animals we get a glimpse of the cultures from which the stories emanate, and we see that the world is interconnected and the planet quite small. The tales show that our similarities are much greater than our differences. Besides their literary value, these tales convey moral instruction. The second part of the book gives background information about the nationalities from which the tales have been taken. Each tale is enhanced with an illustration by Li Ji, an artist and lecturer at Yunnan Art Institute of Kunming, China. He brings to this volume his first-hand knowledge of minority peoples and a deep understanding and love for animals and the environment. This book is still sealed with the publishers shrink wrap, but is approximately 50 pages. The illustrations are very rich and colorful. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. more information

Animal Foot Prints
Union City, CA: Heian Intl Pub Company, 1993. First American Edition. Hard Cover. New/New. Hisa, Kunihiko. Just as animals have different kinds of faces, they also have different kinds of feet. Animals use their feet for many different functions besides walking - running, climbing trees, gathering food, digging holes (maybe your dog or cat does that!), and even for protecting themselves. An animal's feet are perfectly suited to its lifestyle and environment. Depending on the species, animals have different numbers of toes. A horse, for example, only has one. An animal's feet are marvelously adapted to its surroundings. You might even say that an animal's feet can tell you more about it than its face can! Examine the animals in this book by looking at their feet - and maybe this will give us a new perspective on our own! The prints are full-size, with a fold-out for an elephant's foot, and has information of 14 different animals, including the Koala, Bear, Panda, Gorilla, Chimpanzee, Japanese Monkey and more. Photographs of all animals are included, as well as other interesting facts about each. 47 pages, fully illustrated in color. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. more information
