An American in Europe: The Photography Collection of Baroness Jeane Von Oppenheim from the Norton Museum of Art
Germany: Hatje Cantz Pub, 2001. No Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Near Fine. Photographs. (English edition) Can one tell the history of photography in yet another new way? If you let yourself be guided by the selection of works from the very personal collection of the Cologne-based collector Baroness Jeane von Oppenheim presented in this book, you experience the development of photography in the 20th century, not in a chronological fashion but according to the transition of portraits, landscapes, architecture, still life, fashion and film. Oppenheim gave her outstanding collection of about 700 photographs to the Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach, Florida. This book is focused on unusual, atypical examples from the oeuvres of 125 seminal artists such as Berenice Abbott, Henri-Cartier-Bresson, Walker Evans, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Alexander Rodchenko and August Sander. 132 illustrations in duplex and color illustrate the aesthetic difference between various types of imagery. D'Auria, Sue; Lacovara, Peter; Roehring, Catharine H

Dallas, Texas, U.S.A.: Dallas Museum of Art, 1992. No Edition. Soft Cover. New/No Jacket. Photographs. This exhibit was originally conceived and shown at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Working with the Dallas Museum of Art, they developed a long-term loan of the many Egyptian articles that Boston had no space to show. 5) The Rodin Museum, Seoul
Kennon, Kevin; Gandelsonas, Mario; Butler, Ruth

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Princeton Architectural Pr, 2001. First Edition. Hard Cover. New/New. Photographs, Drawings. This museum was intended to house two major works and is, therefore, not very big. But the beauty is in the design - one gets the feeling that there is light all around because the small building is made of varying amounts of translucent glass. This book shows not only photographs of the beautiful finished product, but of the steps taken and drawings of the proposed museum. It is tucked into a corner over which there is a tall building, but it is not affected by the building, nor the 8 lanes of expressway traffic zooming past (there's an amazing photo of this!). It is meant to be a place of quiet contemplation. A beautiful book, an interesting read, and a striking museum are all contained in this volume. This 11 1/2" wide book is bound in grey cloth, and the heavy dust jacket folds over at the top and bottom, as well as the edges. 95 pages, including several full-color photographs which are marvelous! 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. more information

6) Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature
Lederer, Susan E

Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature
New Brunswick, NJ: Rutgers Univ Press, 2002. Unknown. Soft Cover. New. New, still in publishers plastic. As science penetrates the secrets of nature, with each discovery generating new questions, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein will sound its note of warning. Many scientific developments have provoked references to Frankenstein, a story that, for nearly two centuries, has gripped our imaginations and haunted our nightmares. How can society balance the benefits of medical discoveries against the ethical or spiritual questions posed? Lavishly illustrated, this volume highlights Shelley's novel, focuses on the redefinition of the Frankenstein myth in popular culture, and examines the continuing power of this story to articulate present-day concerns raised by new developments in biomedicine such as cloning and xenografting. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. more information
