Frankfurt am Mayn, zu finden bey Heinrich Ludwig Broenner:1768 Initial Blank; frontispiece; title page followed by privilegium; 20 page introduction; 8 pages (two articles) by Johann Arndt; inhalt/table of contents, explanation of the engravings; title page to first book; 1114 pages; 49 page register; 6 page register; bound with second title, Paradies-Gartlein, published by Reinhard Eustachius Moeller, Frankfurt am Mayn, 1756; (xxi; 249 pages; x; concluding blank). 22.3 cm; tooled pigskin binding (believed to be original) with clasps, also believed to be original, although one shows evidence of having been repaired; raised bands. Binding solid and tight. Paper quality good, 62 full-page engravings plus frontispiece (63 total) have darkened slightly. Title page in red and black letter. Aging noted, overall condition of binding and text block very good. Johann Arndt (1555-1621) wrote several books of devotional Lutheranism, inspired by his vow that if God healed him of a painful illness during his days as a medical student, he would devote the rest of his life to the service of God. more information
