OEUVRES COMPLETS COMPOSES POUR LE PIANOFORTE SEUL PAR CH. de Weber. Tome I. Edition correcte et revue
Vienne chez M. Leidesdorf,[1828] Frontispiece engraved portrait of von Weber by von Bayer based on a painted portrait in Dresden by Vogel; engraved edition of solo piano works: Opp. 1, 5, 7, 12, 22, 28, 40, 50, 55, 62, 65, 72, plus the Allegro di Bravura (no opus number) and the Allemandes (nine with trios, also without opus number). Printed on very heavy fine paper, light foxing of initial pages. Interior bright and crisp. 32 cm. Still bound in publisher's original black paper wrapper. This copy has the ownership signature of Fr. Hololirasg' inside in ink and also on the front cover in pencil. Binding still tight. Slight worming lower margin of first three pages, not affecting image or engraved musical score, which was printed with wide 3 cm margins. Very good. A rare memorial edition commemorating von Weber's untimely death from consumption ((1786-1826). Taught by Joseph Haydn's brother, Michael, as a boy in Salzburg, Weber was a link between the first Viennese school and the Romantics, having corresponded with and met Beethoven and having broken ground for many other young composers. He died in London, and his body was returned to Germany for burial, where Wagner delivered the funeral oration. more information
