San Francisco as it Was Seen Just After the Earthquake and Fire
New Orleans: Samuel Faulkner Publishing Co. , 1906. April 18th, 1906 28 pages; A total of 67 photos in black and white, originally a stapled pamphlet, but now separated. The black soft paper covers are decorated with silver designs. The corners of the covers are chipped and worn, (especially the back cover)as are several of the pages. Very fragile but appears complete. "This magnificent collection of photographs were taken just after the fire and before the ruins were disturbed. They are the only complete set of photographs taken of every part of the city, showing San Francisco as it looked before the fire had cooled. They were taken by an artist of repute in San Francisco who spared no expense and trouble in securing expressly for the publisher a set of views that cannot be duplicated anywhere in the United States. The publisher himself was present during the earthquake and was an eye witness to the greatest fire the world has ever known. He remained five days with his family after the earthquake and experienced the misery and suffering which the entire population went through and of which the world will never have the faintest conception or idea. The greatness of the disaster can best be gained by studying the pictures as they are and then picture in your mind a beautiful city upon the hills commanding a view of the Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate and the Bay, and to be seen on every side mansions and buildings of stone. I publish this book of San Francisco as it is today knowing that it will rise a greater and more beautiful city in the years to come." Hard to find in any condition.. Not Stated. Pictorial Wraps. Poor/No Jacket. Oblong Quarto. Pamphlet. Photography, Earthquakes, San Francisco. more information

Dallas Citizens Council Menu/Program Honoring Associate Justice of the Supr eme Court Tomas C. Clark
Interesting large program for the annual meeting of the Dallas Citizens Cou ncil in December of 1949 at which supreme Court Justice Tom Clark was the g uest of honor and speaker. This program is signed by Clark on the cover and on an inside page to W. L. Prehn,on of the directors of the Council. "Clar k's years on the Court cast him into a role of a determined, if cautious, c raftsman of the law who frequently became a 'swing man' between the 'libera l' and 'conservative' blocs on the bench. Although he remained essentially true to his assertive strong governmental position, he was fully alive to t he basic lines and limits inherent in constitutionalism and the nature of t he judicial function. The country deeply regretted Clark's self-imposed res ignation at the close of the 1966-1967 term when LBJ appointed his mercuria l son, Ramsey Clark, Attorney General of the United States." -- Henry J. Ab raham The program itself is in very good condition but the front edge of th e wrap is chipped and worn as it extends beyond the edges of the heavier pa per of the text, and there are some lighter spots around the edges. The seal of the U.S Supreme Court is applied in gold foil to the front cover. Please e-mail if you have any questions or would like to see a scan. 15.00 . more information
