Only quite minor scuffing to spines; slight surface rubbing to boards; front inner hinge of Vol. I cracked but firm, not separated; scattered foxing, mostly light but not so light in places; else a fine copy. Complete with all 25 steel engraved plates, 26 vignettes in text. The translation was by Mary Smirke, the artist's daughter. Robert Smirkie (1752-1845) was an English painter elected to the Royal Academy in 1791. He did many popular book illustrations - pleasing, graceful, sometimes humourous, accomplished, and spirited.
