I can't help adding this comment: My great-great grand uncle vas the Prince's valet, who apperently found the dead couple. By the direct order of the Emperor, he, and several other people involved, were never to speak about what they had witnessed. Indeed, my relative died many years later, without ever uttering a word about the Mayerling tragedy. Had he revealed anything, there might not have been a need for this book....
