Blue cloth, ruled, decorated and letterd in black on front panels, lettered in gilt on spine panels, top edges in gilt. viii,240 + [vi],231 pp., illus. w/ 10 full page sepia plates per volume (20 total), with tissue guards, + numerous figures, drawings, plans set into text. Sumptuous survey of Romanesque and Gothic cathedral architecture in the British Isles. Both volumes modestly rubbed along edges and joints, at corners and spine extremities, lightly soiled with a few light surface marks. Hinges are starting in both volumes but firm. Printed on heavy coated "art paper" stock. In Vol. 1, pp. 231-240 show the effects of moisture damage, with surface paper adhesion partially obscuring the bottom several lines of text and/or illustrations on pp. 232-239. Interiors are otherwise intact, showing only light foxing on and proximate to plates. Otherwise a very presentable set. Vol. 1 thus Good, Vol. 2 VG to VG+.
