Photographs; 4to 11" - 13" tall; xvii, 207 pages; Limited EditionCondition/Details: Bound in green cloth with very bright embossed gilt lettering and question mark to front cover, this volume is a scarce biography of Claude (Alexander) Conlin (1880 - 1954) , magician, mentalist, Houdini-rival and one of the most celebrated vaudevillians of the 20th century. Conlin was a stage magician who specialized in mentalism and psychic reading acts, dressed in Oriental style robes and a feathered turban, and often used a crystal ball as a prop. In addition to performing, he also worked privately for clients, giving readings. He was the author of several pitch books and New Thought pamphlets, as well as texts for stage performers. His stage name was "Alexander," and as an author he wrote under the name "C. Alexander." This is copy number 41 of 1000. The work is lavishly illustrated with many drawings and photographs, including many color plates of his publicity material. The volume is in excellent condition, and is solidly bound with unmarked pages that are clean and bright. Intact pictorial dustjacket with a tiny 1/4" marginal tear, is in mylar cover.
