From the Forward: "One of the oldest ongoing social gatherings in Goodhue County is the annual fair. For more than 120 years, this vessel has brought together those variously involved in the county's agricultural sector. This study of the county fair offers a novel and important approach to one facet of agricultural life. Historically, the fair has reflected, and in many ways stimulated, changes in agriculture. It has reflected, as well, the social values of the larger rural community. The history of the fair is indeed the history of a rural agricultural society, for it represents a continuous record of change."
