Shardik
New York, NY, U.S.A.: Morrow/Avon, 1976. Book Description "Shardik is a powerful work, dipping deep into old forms-allegory, epic, myth-resonating in the caverns of the readers' unconscious . . . It is an exciting story, the adventures compelling." (Los Angeles Times) "Grips with suspense, haunts with mystery . . . a memorable work, not to be read once only but to be reread as loved books are . . . a human saga." (The Wall Street Journal) Richard Adams's Watership Down was a number one bestseller, a stunning work of the imagination, and an acknowledged modern classic. In Shardik Adams sets a different yet equally compelling tale in a far-off fantasy world.. ISBN: 0380005166. Name inside/tan pgs/hinge crease/edge Ru. Mass Market Paperback. Very Good. The Trouble Twisters
New York, NY, U.S.A.: Berkley Publishing Group, 1983. Reviewer Roger - Essentially, it postulates: 1) mankind develops cheap interstellar travel within a few centuries; 2) there are quite a few worlds inhabited with sentient beings; and 3) humans and aliens are just as greedy in the future as humans are right now here on earth. Anderson takes these three postulates and projects what I have found to be the most plausible extrapolation about what an interstellar human civilization would be like that I have yet found. Those familiar with the broad range of Anderson's work know that he believes that the market "functions as effortlessly and as inevitably as gravity." The Trouble Twisters deals with interstellar merchant-adventurers out to make a buck. No "Prime Directive" here. Human civilization is dominated by the Polesotechnic League ("League of Selling Skills") and is unabashadly capitalist. Private corporations and merchant-adventurers dominate space travel for the very good reason that they plan to make a profit by it.. ISBN: 0425058220. Readers copy/creased/other Flaws. Lythande
New York, NY, U.S.A.: D A W Books, Incorporated, 1986. 1 spine line, no creases or rubs, pages yellowed slightly. This volume contains all the Lythande stories written up to its publication; two more can be found in _Spell Singers_, an anthology attributed to "Alan Bard Newcomer", but not here. Lythande also appeared as a supporting character in stories written by other authors in Thieves' World; those collected in this volume feature the Adept as protagonist. Lythande is a mercenary magician; specifically, a Pilgrim Adept of the Order of the Blue Star. The Pilgrim Adepts are sworn to fight in the last battle, on the side of Law against Chaos, at the end of the world. Until that day, they wander, gathering knowledge and power as they will (hence 'Pilgrim' Adepts). The power of a Pilgrim Adept depends on keeping certain vows (e.g. never to eat or drink in front of men), but most of all, upon keeping a secret, specific to each adept. If that secret is ever spoken aloud by any man save the Master of the Star, it (and the magic bound into it) become void, so that the powerless adept becomes worthless to the order - and may be killed by anyone who pleases.. E Rutherford, New Jersey, U.S.A.: Ace Books, 1988. Reviewer - snow_in_august - Third book of the stunning Changewinds series, a beautiful blend of the typical fantasy world of swords and monsters, and the somewhat modern world, with guns and plumbing and electric lighting. And it's blended so seamlessly that I often wonder what kind of a world it is, modern or fantasy. The characters Sam and Charley go through even MORE transformations in this book, their physical states altered in odd ways. The climax was brilliant, showing how the two girls' wishes intertwine and weave together into a result that, on the surface, would seem almost ideal, but behind the scenes, in the opinions and minds of the two heroines, has it's own problems, like any change and tiral of life. Great ending, atypical of many fantasy novels I've read.. ISBN: 0441102689. Spinelines/tilt/hinge Crease/tanning Pg. Mass Market Paperback. Good. FICTION SCIENCE. more information

And the Devil Will Drag You Under
Del Rey, 1979. Asmodeus Mogart was not a bad fellow, as demons go. Having gotten in trouble back in the home office, he had been assigned to duty on Earth. There he toiled, doing the kinds of things demons do and turning into something of a drunk. Then a rogue asteroid threatened to crash into Earth and destroy all life on the planet -- demons included! There had to be a better way. Mac Walters and Jill McCullough, holding a private wake for their world in a Reno bar, were more than startled when a strange-looking little drunk told them they could save the world. All they had to do was enter five alternate universes and steal a demon-guarded jewel in each. Clearly, the man was crazy. But they had nothing better to do than go along with the gag. Then they each found themselves, naked and alone, on a hostile alien world!. ISBN: 0345279263. Gently read /Light Spine Lines/edge Rubs. Mass Market Paperback. Good. more information

Wizard War

New York, NY, U.S.A.: Warner Books, Incorporated, 1987. Reviewer: dusty Wow, this book is great. I have read a lot of fantasy books, but this one tops my list as one of the all time greats. The story was absolutely enthralling, the characters were some of the most lifelike characters I have ever read, if it weren't for the fact that I had to turn the page I would have thought them real. Cook did an excellent job at weaving a tale of high fantasy. I recommend this book to anyone out there who likes fantasy novels or if they think these novels are just toys of a bad imagination, then they should read this book, I believe it will change their perspective on how they view fantasy fiction books.. Stone Mountain, Georgia, U.S.A.: White Wolf Pub, 1996. Reviewer: A reader I found this book both fascinating and enthralling. It has great source material, new merits, flaws and generating system that allow you to create the NEAR eternal (not immortal, there is a difference) mummies. However, one thing that should absolutely be noted before purchasing the book - a warning so to speak - is that there is only one book in this series (there should have been more) and the background material covers only the Egyptian/Greek mummies, but refers to "the others" constantly. Also note, that the creation process for mummies is more grueling and there are not as many spells in their paths to work with solely on the facts in this book.. ISBN: 1565042069. New York, NY, U.S.A.: Ace Books, 1988. Dickson offers a lighter and brisker-than-usual adventure. The hero is another military superman, but here starship fighter pilot Jim Wander is manipulated by scientist Mary Gallegher into a mental symbiosis with his beloved ship. Their mission is to gather information about the mysterious aliens, the Laagi, who have been locked in battle with Earth for 200 years. In typically didactic Dickson fashion, the two disembodied human minds learn as much about themselves and each other as they do about the Laagi.. ISBN: 044124713x. Spine Lines/tilt/edge rubs/tight. Lord of the Isles

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Tor Books, 1998. From Amazon: - Lord of the Isles opens a massive new saga of clashing swords and spells in an archipelago world. One thousand years beforehand, potent sorcery won a war only for it to backlash and sink the winning island. Now, with magic reaching another millennial peak of power, the world is endangered. Among the players are a king's ghost and two magicians who were present at the ancient disaster (one of them caused it), plus modern wizards, warriors, and unknowing descendants of royalty. Drake skillfully juggles multiple storylines as his engaging characters meet a wild variety of danger: rising and vanishing lands, the reanimated dead (not only human dead), out-of-control sorcery, demons, riots, traps, and other planes of reality including hell itself. The magic comes in several fascinating and often unpleasant flavors. Even likeable characters may die.. ISBN: 0812522400. Brand New/not a Remainder. Mass Market Paperback. New. London, United Kingdom: Random House UK, Limited, 1995. tip top corner of book chewed??? Book Description: Vermithrax, the last of dragonkind, swooped down over the kingdom of Urland, let loose a torrent of flames, and reduced everything to smoldering ash. Then, finding the newly blackened wasteland much to its liking, it settled in for a long stay. Desperate, the villagers finally sought the help of Ulrich, the last living sorcerer. But Ulrich was too old, too feeble. That left only his apprentice, Galen, to go against the might and terror of the deadly dragon. Of the use of weapons he knew nothing.
