2) Who Killed the Robins Family?
Adler, Bill, Jr.; Chastin, Thomas

Who Killed the Robins Family?
New York, NY, U.S.A.: Warner Books, Incorporated, 1984. Reviewer: A reader from Canada This novel has an interesting concept in that characters are killed off but the reader doesn't know who by. The authors held a contest at the time the book was published whereby readers could submit entries on who they thought the killer(s) were and they could win $10,000. I recently finished the book and now I am going to sit down and try to figure out who the killer(s) is(are). Doing the story this way makes the reader a little more involved in the book in that they have to figure who did it and why. I recommend this book to mystery readers and people who like puzzles as well.. ISBN: 0446323144. No lines/edgerub/stamp/back Cover Crease. Mass Market Paperback. Good. more information

8) Rummies : A Novel
Benchley, Peter

Rummies : A Novel
New York, NY, U.S.A.: Ballantine Books, 1990. From Library Journal When New York editor Scott Preston needs two double vodkas to start the day, his wife and his boss (threatening loss of marriage and job) ship him off to a rehab center. At the Banner Clinic, rummies and junkies--among them a movie star, a professional athlete, and a mobster--face hard truths and rough treatment, with no expletives deleted. Successful WASP-stereotype Preston is first alienated, then joins in the camaraderie, becomes infatuated with aristocratic addict Priscilla Godfrey, and is drawn into subplots: the mysterious death of a glamorous film star and recent Banner graduate; the abrupt firing of two counselors; and the abuse of Priscilla by clinic-founder Stone Banner, a charismatic ex-cowboy movie star. This is a schizophrenic novel with stereotypical characters, but the Benchley name may create demand. Spine curve-wear/rubs/tight clean/tilt. Mass Market Paperback. Acceptable. more information

9) Steel Tiger
Berent, Mark

Steel Tiger
New York, NY, U.S.A.: Berkley Publishing Group, 1990. From Library Journal Berent's (Storm Flight, LJ 9/15/93) latest popular novel is a heroic tale featuring U.S. fighter pilots during the Vietnam War. The text is conveniently spliced with hard rock music and accompanied by sounds of guns and aircraft. The characters have dual conflicts, e.g., Major Court Bannister's brother is a traitor, Captain Toby Parker battles alcoholism, and Lieutenant Colonel Wolf Lochert fights corruption. The vignettes are uneven as is Paul Ikena's narrative performance. Nonetheless, the work will appeal to the action-oriented crowd. Spine curve/name inside/tight/sp Lines. Mass Market Paperback. 15) Alice in La-La Land
Campbell, Robert

Alice in La-La Land
Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada: Simon & Schuster Canada, 1988. From Publishers Weekly - Campbell's In La-La Land We Trust received rave reviews and this maze-like sequel should, too. "La-La Land' is a Los Angeles area that private-eye Whistler knows well, turf for male and female whores, drunks and druggies. When lovely Nell Twelvetrees, a stranger in La-La, asks Whistler to be her bodyguard, he gladly accepts, and not just for the fee. He is captivated by Nell and eager to protect her from her husband Roger, a millionaire TV comic. Assaults on Whistler and the woman follow, as she tries to force Roger to settle a fortune on her during divorce negotiations. Also involved in these events are Jenny, the comic's lethal daughter, and her eerie boyfriend. A crooked cop, battered hookers and other types figure in the cunning plot. No one is what he or she seems, especially the Alice of the title. She plays a startling role in this chronicle by an author who shines as a satirist but creates feeling in the reader for even the worst of his debauched characters.. The Players Come Again
New York, NY, U.S.A.: Ballantine Books, 1991. From Publishers Weekly: Writing as Amanda Cross, English professor Carolyn Heilbrun introduced her female professor sleuth in 1964, endowing Kate Fansler with a gift for urbane conversation, sophisticated taste, literary expertise and a mind for murder, thus inspiring other writers to create a slew of similarly feminine detectives But while female investigators, private eyes and amateur snoopers now proliferate, Cross remains queen of the American literary whodunit. Here, three childhood friends are intimately connected with the work of modernist writer Emmanuel Foxx and his enigmatic wife, Gabrielle. When Fansler is asked to write the biography of Gabrielle in order to bring out the true role of Foxx's "muse," she engages in more than literary detection. A poignant memoir within the novel, attributed to one of the three friends, demonstrates Cross's felicitous ability to create another prose style--and to craft a story that will win her an even wider audience. Farrell, Gillian B

Alibi for an Actress
New York, New York, U.S.A.: Pocket Books, 1993. A slight, uneven, but likably amusing debut for Farrell--who was once an aspiring NY actress, as well as a part-time assistant to a private detective, and who uses both experiences in concocting this mystery-cum-satire. Farrell's alter-ego heroine is out-of-work actress Annie McGrogan, who eagerly grabs any temp assignments she can get from ``Duke'' DeNobili, ex-cop turned big-time p.i.--including the job of baby-sitting soap-opera star Lucinda Merrill, who's been scared by anonymous threats. And so, when Lucinda's kinky, druggie husband is murdered, Annie--who can swear she was watching over Lucinda on the night in question--becomes the key to the TV star's alibi. But what about the eyewitness who saw Lucinda at the murder site? It's up to Annie to puzzle out this contradiction and clear Lucinda's name. - From Kirkus Reviews..
