Glasgow & Edinburgh: Davis - Photographer. Circa early 1870s cabinet card portrait of baby and proud parents. Baby, sitting in mother's lap is about 1-year-old and is reaching one hand toward mother's brooch. Mother (about 20-years-old) is seated with father (about 25) standing to her side. Ovinius Davis had studios in Glasgow (1866 to1908) and Edinburgh (1881 to 1928), according to the EdinPhoto website. Pebble-textured silver card has squared corners with gilt studio name and address to bottom. Rear is blank except for a penned notation "Barclay-Tripp".. Very Good +. 4.5 x 6.5". more information

Circa 1890s set of three cabinet cards showing vignetted head and shoulder portraits of (card 1) a 30-year-old man in jacket (looking like a Keystone Cop), white shirt and bow tie (card 2) a woman in her late 20s in a dark dress draped with pendant necklace around the outside of her collar and a white collar under that, hair tight and parted in centre and (card 3) a two-year-old baby in a wide white lace collar covering his shoulders and front (ages approximate of course). Brown card has rounded corners with gilt edges and gilt studio name and address. Rear of each is immaculate. Top edge of each card is separating and top edge of each photo is coming loose from card. Her dress is a solid colour (not black) with a white lace collar and a largish locket around her neck and hanging down over the lace. She's got as enigmatic a smile as the Mona Lisa and is sat in a studio set-up to look like a wooded glen, on what appears to be a tree stump surrounded by leafy and grassy covering below her booted feet. Photo is more grey and white than black and white. Card is pure white, immaculate with studio name and details and logo in Gilt with gilt beveled edges and rounded corners. . The 5-year-old is standing, the 3-year-old is sitting on the corner and the 8-year-old is sitting also on the stonework. The two older boys are wearing suit and ties, while the youngest is in a Lord Fauntleroy outfit. The two older brothers are dressed in kilts with the older boy standing centre and younger brother seated to his right. The baby is in a dress and is perched upon a high stool. Photo is immaculate. White card (with squared corners) is clean except for a few small soil marks. The studio name and details and embossed tripple rule around photo are light brown. decorated and lists studios in Edinburgh, Newcastle-on-Tyne and Aberdeen. Edinburgh: Wood & Co - Photographers. Circa early 1890s cabinet card showing a young couple, apparently mother and son (he's about 17, she's about 35-years-old). She is standing by his side, with a hand on his shoulder, while he sits with one ankle crossed over the other. Wood & Co succeeded the Low family at the Princess Street, Edinburgh studio, but various members of the Low family, which started in photography at the end of the 1860s, continued in the trade in various other locations until the early 1920s. Photo has several white flecks. Card (gilt edged with rounded corners) is grey, with black studio name and details to bottom front. On the rear is the studio name, address and notation that it is the successor to "Messrs Low". On the rear are also numerous notations apparently indicating stock numbers and prices. . She is looking rather anxious or nervous and is dressed in a top with very wide, ballooned shoulders and with tons of black lace to the bodice and lower arms to the wrists. She is seated next to a table on which is laid a magazine. E R Yerbury was progenitor of a long line of professional photographers which continues to this day. Photo has several white and a couple of brown flecks and a rounded 2-inch white line near left edge. Card (with rounded corners) is grey, with white studio name, details and logo to bottom front and highly decorated rear. It is numbered in pencil to the rear No 43240B..
