2) The silent twins
WALLACE, MARJORIE

New York: Prentice Hall,. 1986. Hard Cover. 0138102767 . 230 pges, 8 plates, cloth, dj, very good. From the dj, 'This is an extraordinary story of identical twin girls, June and Jennifer Gibbons, in a state of irreconciliable battle with themselves and the world. Now in their twenties, from early childhood they refused to speak to any adult. Instead, they developed an elaborate fantasy life that was based on dolls (represenations of themselves that they ritually loved and killed), diaries, poems, stories, novels and Bronte-like miniature books. They have written almost a million words recording every detail of their emotions - their passionate struggle for identity and their conflicting desires for escape form and union with each other. From their self-imposed isolation they ventured into sprees of drug-taking, sex and arson, for which they were ultimately sent to Broadmoore - Britain's notorious hospital for for the criminally insane. There they are still baffling psychiatrists.' . more information

Woodworth, Robert S. In Collaboration with Mary R. Sheehan

New York: Ronald Press Company. Very Good. 1964. Third Edition. Hardcover. Viii, 456 pages, frontispiece (portrait) , cloth, very good. From the Wikipedia website: "Robert Sessions Woodworth (1869-1962) was an influential American academic psychologist of the first half of the twentieth century. His textbook Psychology: A study of mental life, which appeared first in 1921, went through many editions and was the first introduction to psychology for generations of undergraduate students. His 1938 textbook of Experimental Psychology was scarcely less influential, especially in the 1954 2nd edition, written with Harold H. Schlosberg. In the 1929 second edition of the earlier text, Woodworth introduced the expression Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) to describe his functionalist approach to psychology and to stress its difference from the strictly Stimulus-Response (S-R) approach of the behaviorists. During World War One, Woodworth created the Woodworth Personal Data Survey (WPDS) , which has been called the first personality test. The WPDS was designed to identify new recruits who were likely to suffer "shell shock" while fighting overseas. Although the test was designed too late for it to be used operationally, the test was highly influential in the development of later personality inventories. " 1320B; 456 pages . more information

ZEANAH, CHARLES H., Jr. editor

New York: Guilford Press. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1993. First Edition. Hard Cover. 0898629969 . 501 pages, cloth, dj, very good. From the publisher: Despite the wealth of research on infancy, this comprehensive handbook is the first to offer a broad interdisciplinary analysis of the developmental, clinical and social aspects of infant mental health. With chapters written by scholars and clinicians from a variety of perspectives, the work is grounded in a relational view of infancy and applies the fruits of contemporary research in developmental psychology to the problems encountered in clinical practice. Extensive in its scope, this volume thoroughly covers models of development, risk conditions and protective factors, and social policy considerations, as well as assessment, evaluation, and diagnosis for all children from birth to three years of age. . more information
