Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.: Temple Univ Pr, 1999. No dustjacket; extremely minimal edgewear; otherwise like new. "This book fills a self-evident gap in the social and political literature on sexual identity movements." Robert W. Bailey, Rutgers University "The last twenty-five years have seen a creative and original theorizing from sociologists and political scientists about social movements and collective political behavior. Testosterone : A Novel
Baker, James Robert
Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.: Alyson Publications, 2001. Brand new with no remainder mark! "Dean Seagrave is a crazed L.A. artist with a vendetta. His heart has been broken and his house burned down--all his books and art, even the only manuscript of his new graphic novel, Testosterone, destroyed, along with his good nature and his sense of restraint. Now he's careening through Los Angeles on the trail of his loser ex-boyfriend, Pablo Ortega, who had promised fidelity but turned out to be a "sleazy little scumbag beaner tearoom queen," an "emotional serial killer" who simply chose Dean as his latest victim. In one hand, Dean holds the tape recorder into which he recounts events as they occur, a sort of "living novel" of his search for vengeance. The final book from the author of Tim and Pete (Baker, who suffered from depression, killed himself in 1997), Testosterone is a wild ride--dark, funny, and satiric--and a testament to the savage side of love.". It Had to Be You
Beck, Timothy James
E Rutherford, New Jersey, U.S.A.: Kensington Pub Corp, 2001. Brand new unread condition except previous owner scotch-taped the dustjacket flaps to the cover boards; not a flaw, really, but worth mentioning I guess. "New Yorker Daniel Stephenson had made a name for himself with his drag persona, Princess 2Di4, when the sudden death of the real Princess Di drained all the pleasure from his performances. Taking the advice (and financial support) of a wealthy aunt, he decides to "toss the tiara and get a life." Unfortunately, Daniel's only degrees are in "extensive show tune knowledge, advanced lip-synch, and how to cover up a five o'clock shadow." With his best friend beginning to die from AIDS, his ex-boyfriend prowling around, and his ex-boyfriend's new boyfriend making a pass at Daniel, what's a boy to do but throw himself into intensive weeding and planting of his new apartment garden? And if a handsome stranger should smile down at him from a nearby window, so much the better. Timothy James Beck's debut novel is detailed, realistic, and continually interesting. His main character spends so much energy exhaustively "processing" what happens to him, however, that this might as well have been a lesbian novel. With a little editing, It Had to Be You would have been a much stronger book, but patient readers will agree that Beck shows great promise along the lines of Felice Picano and Neal Drinnan.". Men on Men 5: Best New Gay Fiction
Bergman, David (ed.)
New York, New York, U.S.A.: Plume, 1994. Minimal edgewear - slightly scratched on front cover - otherwise excellent condition. "This recent addition to the "Men on Men" series, now under new editorship, lives up to its subtitle with emphasis on "new." The book reads like overnight dispatches from a primarily young, gay America. It's exciting, too, in its variety. These stories, ranging in place from a Dairy Queen in Texas to a village in Ireland, are narrated by the love-lorn as well as hustlers and were written by a diverse group of men-most of whom share little more than a brief publishing history. If there is one idea that unifies these stories it is that of the lover, whether he's on the horizon, being courted, settling in, becoming dull, dying, or long dead. At times these stories may be gangly or a bit awkward, but that's a good part of their charm." . Soft Cover. Very Good. ( more information)

Psychology and Sexual Orientation: Coming to Terms
Bohan, Janis S
Independence, Kentucky, U.S.A.: Routledge, 1996. Extremely minimal edgewear; otherwise brand new unread condition. "In recent years, numerous events have drawn attention to the place of gay, lesbian and bisexual people in society. Consider the litany: electoral initiatives to restrict "gay-rights;" contentious discussions about accepting gays in the military; incidents of appalling violence against lesbian, bisexual and gay individuals; court cases where the parental rights of lesbians and gays have been contested. Psychology and Sexual Orientation strives to "come to terms" with lesbian, gay and bisexual life and with the controversial scientific and sociocultural theories and arguments on the origin and meaning of homosexuality and queer life in the US. Janis Bohan disrupts conventional psychological perspectives on queer life and identity and animates the on-going debate (still fresh among psychologists) between essentialism and constructionism. Bohan discusses the meaning of sexual orientation; lesbian, gay and bisexual identity development and stigma management; diversity in experiences; partners and parenting; and lesbian, gay and bisexual communities. Writing in a language and style that will appeal to both the professional and lay readers, Bohan is an essential voice in the ongoing debate on the construction of sexual orientation and identity." . Dangerous Liaisons: Blacks, Gays, and the Struggle for Equality
Brandt, Eric (ed.)
New York, New York, U.S.A.: New Pr, 1999. Extremely minimal edgewear; otherwise brand new unread condition. "Many gays and lesbians have suffered from oppression in the United States; so have many African Americans. But their mutual suffering has not necessarily led to sympathy and collaboration: witness the sharp protests among some black leaders when queer activists compare their struggle to the civil rights movement, or the subtle exclusion of gays and lesbians of color from some activist organizations. The essays in Dangerous Liaisons all stem from the premise that this division is counterproductive in combating both racism and homophobia. Contributors include Henry Louis Gates Jr., Audre Lorde, Cornel West, and Samuel Delany. Jewelle Gomez describes the ways in which her acceptance in the black community has often been predicated upon suppressing her lesbianism, while Martin Duberman describes his experiences researching and writing his biography of Paul Robeson. In all these essays runs an undercurrent that Barbara Smith makes explicit: "All of the aspects of who I am are crucial, indivisible, and pose no inherent conflict."" . Hard Cover. As New/As New. Gents
Collins, Warwick
United Kingdom: Marion Boyars, 1997. SHIPPING WILL BE SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED ON THIS SMALLER-SIZED BOOK - INQUIRE FOR DETAILS. Brand new with no remainder mark! "Not too many novels can lay claim to a men's restroom as their primary setting, but in the case of Warwick Collins's novel, Gents, a lavatory is an educational place. The hero of this slim volume is Ez Murphy, a Jamaican immigrant to London who finds work cleaning a public restroom. He soon becomes wise to the ways of a certain faction of the world--those who have romantic rendezvous in the toilet stalls. Ez might be naive, but he's not close-minded; when he discovers that his own son prefers hair-styling to soccer, he decides to investigate this alternative lifestyle before making up his mind. Like Ez himself, Gents is charming, honest, and willing to explore different points of view about homosexuality with compassion and humor." . Hard Cover. As New/As New. ( more information)
