New York: A.M.S. Press, 1974. Fine brown cloth with no edgewear, bright gilt title on unfaded spine. Protected in a clear, mylar dustjacket. Pages xii, 344 with index. Reprint of the scarce 1933 John Murray first edition, a nice copy of which can not be had for under $100. Young was a British Arabist of the vintage of T.E. Lawrence, and this is his memoir of travel, military and governance experience in Iraq and Arabia from 1913 to 1922. He comments on his fellow Arabists, like Dickson, Philby, Lawrence and Gertrude Bell. There is much on Lawrence and the military ops with the Hashemites, as Young was an important officer in that enterprise. He was later a diplomat in Iraq from 1929 to 1939. . 2nd Edition. Illus. by 3 Small, Folding Maps at Rear. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. more information
