Lancashire's location between the sea and the moors and between the Cheshire Plain and the Lake District ensures that the county has a wide diversity of habitats, and this is reflected in is exceptionally rich avifauna. The introduction describes the principal habitats, and each map is accompanied by a one-page caption giving detailed information on each species.
