An Egyptian Journal

London: Faber. Near Fine/Near Fine. 1985. First Edition. Hardback. 0571135935 With a map of the area and 32 pages of beautiful photographs, some in colour. 207 pages. William Golding has had a passion for ancient Egypt since his schooldays. This extremely entertaining and often very amusing travel Journal follows his journey along the Nile, sailing through Egypt in a style that freed him to observe and explore the country from an unusual point of view. As a wartime naval officer and a lifelong sailor he believed that this would be an ideal means to write freshly about the landscape, the magnificent monuments and the people. A Journey in Ladakh
London: Cape. Very Good+/Very Good+. 1983. First Edition. Hardback. 0224020560 236pp, end paper maps. Dedicated to Iris Murdoch. The approach to Ladakh is forbidding. It is the highest, most remote and sparsely populated region of India and one of the last places on earth where Tibetan Buddhist society survives. Harvey was abashed at the intensity of his meeting with Thurksey Rinpoche, an old Tibetan lama, at the monastery of Shey. It took time for Harvey to realise that his journey through breathtaking physical spendours had led him toward the beginning of another journey. Dust-jacket has minor foxing spots to flaps, and slight bumping to one corner; jacket is in loose protective cover. Feint spotting to top page edges, otherwise a nice copy in Very Good+ condition in a similar dust-jacket. . more information
