This is the premier history of the Swedish province of Halland, written and edited by members of the Lund School of historiography. Halland, a rich agricultural province on the Atlantic seaboard of southwestern Sweden, was ceded to Sweden by Denmark in the 1645 Treaty of Bromsebro. This work presents a series of scholarly articles addressing various historical, cultural, political and economic aspects of Halland's history. Volume 1 (published 1954; xiii, 883 pp.; illustrations, footnotes, name and place indexes) contains 5 contributions: "Hallands forntid" [Prehistory of Halland]; "Hallands politska historia" [Political History of Halland]; "Hallands bönder" [Agriculture of Halland]; "Hallands städer" [Towns of Halland]; and, "Hallands fästningar" [Military Fortresses of Halland].
