Unpaginated picture book has a proverb, a short explanation of its meaning, and an illustration on each page - except that some proverbs get a splendid two-page spread. All are drawn with Shirley Hughes's inimitable humour and grace. The irate gentleman in his glass house threatening to throw a stone at the cheeky boys on his back fence is just one of the vignettes that left me smiling. This is a withdrawn library book with markings on the endpapers and bottom edge.
