Church was the award-winning food editor for the Chicago Tribune (and better known as Mary Meade) The book was written as an introduction to wine for Americans at a time when wine was still a bit of a novelty in the United States. Church's manner is decidely unpedantic. There are 100 recipes for a variety of dishes using wine and port.
