The title page is a bit chipped and torn but otherwise this is a very good copy. It has recently been repaired with modern vellum. A nice match for the other work about Paul the Apostle listed in our inventory, Hermann Witsi's '...Meletemata...vita et Rebus Gestis pauli Apostoli'.   A brief note, 'Easter Greetings' from your friend, Wm Lyon Phelps, 1937 to Ms Sarah J Newland. Some folds present otherwise a nice piece. Would go well with a Pheps Novel or book. William Lyon Phelps (January 2, 1865 New Haven, Connecticut - August 21, 1943 New Haven, Connecticut) was an American author, critic and scholar. He taught the first American university course on the modern novel. He was a well-known speaker who drew large crowds. He had a radio show, wrote a daily syndicated newspaper column, lectured frequently, and published numerous popular books and articles. Early life and education Phelps' father Sylvanus Dryden Phelps was a Baptist minister. William as a child was a friend of Frank Hubbard, the son of Langdon Hubbard, a lumber merchant who founded Huron City, Michigan. A letter from Gordon Bennett, the New York Herald, to C. H. Meltzer a correspondent to cover the 4th Railroad Congress to be held in St. Petersburg on August 20th, 1872 in which Bennett is going to vacation and show up. He is writing this letter from his Paris appartment at 190 Avenue des Champs Elysees...google it folks....This letter has some stains and edge tears and as you can see from the pictures it has some conservator's repairs as well. Tearing at the creases but does mention the possible interview with General Annenkoff (see below for brief on Annenkoff). Folds present but a very nice letter. No information is available on the 4th Railroad Congress in St. Petersburgh but none the less a rare and important railroad history document...despite its creases, tears and stains.
