Sheet size: ca. 350 x 257 mm. All preserved in a large folio sized modern maroon cloth box. Paris: Leviez, 1770. First State of these whimsical architectural fantasies by the artist responsible for the popularity of Chinoiserie, Jean Pillement. Pillement (1728-1808) was the most prolific and successful master of rococo fantasy of his time and his designs were adopted by countless leading artistic manufactories. Introduction by Joseph Brodsky. 232 pp. Illustrated with eight coloured illustrations by Romare Bearden. 4to., bound in original publisher's linen silkscreened after a design by Bearden, in the publisher's cardboard slipcase (lightly sunned spine). New York: Limited Editions Club, 1983. One of the very few books illustrated by an African-American artist. From a total edition of 2000, this one containing the loose original, numbered lithograph. Bearden executed 8 lithographs, each in an edition of 250 copies, which were inserted in the books, and most of which have long since been removed. The colophon is signed by both the author and the artist. Derek Walcott, called "the first outstanding poet of the Caribbean" is a native of St. Lucia off the coast of Venezuela. Dodge Corporation, 1944. An immaculate copy of a fragile work rarely found thus. This is the first of Sutnar's three groundbreaking works on design. Catalog Design introduced the basic concepts in catalog design. Designing Information applied the basic concepts of information design to a broader range, and lastly Catalog Design Progress further developed ideas in visual communication.

Paris: Fournier, 1845. A fine copy of this delightful Grandville work, preserved in the scarce publisher's polychrome binding. While this book lacks the surreal qualities of Un Autre Monde, the presence of a substantial number of anthropomorphic illustrations in the manner of those which had appeared in Scenes de la vie privee et public des animaux, elevate it above the typical "romantique" book, and make it a worthy addition to the Grandville oeuvre. Only edition of this eccentric Japanese book, published to showcase a Tudor-style mansion designed by William Merrell Vories for Shotaru Shimomura, the chairman of the Japanese department store chain Daimaru. The book is comprised of black and white tipped-in photographs of interior rooms, furniture, decorative elements, and exterior shots of this Western Tudor house built in Japan before the Second World War. Shimomura was also a keen photographer, and exhibited in the Ashiya photographic Salons of 1935, 1936, and 1937.
