Noted theologian and professor Cornel West advocates a faith-based response to what he sees as a creeping imperialism that threatens our democratic heritage. West's trenchant analysis of American culture at a post-9/11 crossroads makes challenging reading. His references range from key epochs in American history, to classical Greece, to the nations of the Middle East. His revivalist rhetoric calls for a reconciliation at home and abroad and a recognition of many voices, including those of the youth culture. Theological, hortatory, and grounded, West's vision is both Christian-based and Marxist, yet ultimately in the American grain.
