Ownership signature and date in black ink to front blank, otherwsie free of any writing or markings. A very good copy.

FORE-EDGE PAINTING of a bright and colourful Pre-Raphaelite, pastoral scene. Pp. xiv, 164, engraved frontispiece portrait after Benjamin Wilson, plus 3 engravings by Charles W. Radclyffe on Chine Colle (or perhaps Oxford India paper) and mounted, head and tail pieces, some initial letters. Bit of spotting to leather of upper cover, hint of offsetting to pages opposite the plates, otherwise a near fine, clean, crisp, tight copy with a beautiful fore-edge painting. Covers very slightly soiled, ink inscription with address of previous owner to front pastedown, mild spotting to prelims and margins of plates, otherwise a very good, crisp copy with a beautiful apropos fore-edge painting. Handsome on the shelf.

Illustrated engraved frontispiece, illustrated title-page repeating the coat of arms from the cover, and 11 engraved plates, artists include J.H. Nixon, C. Landseer, G. Barret, J.W. Wright, Copley Fielding, S.A. Hart, and J.M.W. Turner. Joints and edgtes slightly rubbed, minor chipping to heel of spine. A very good copy with a beautiful fore-edge painting.
