Original light blue boards with black spine titles. 181pp plus 10pp rear adverts. Pictorial dw depicting a spectre rearing up behind a dilettante who is reading a book. The dw has some damage inc loss of three letters in front upper right corner, most of titles on top end of spine, and a larger loss to rear panel. The dw is protected in a plastic cover but is toned with age. In terms of overall loss, the dw is missing perhaps 5-10% of its total. Orig black cloth with white front cover and spine titles. 179pp + 4pp rear index. Spine lettering partially perished, corner tips nicked, signed by author in biro to title page. Nearer very good than good. Note: almost certainly this was a book signed in later life by the author. As O'Donnell is not known to used personal bookplates, usually opting to mark his own copies with just his signed name or the initials "E.O.D" to the page fore edges, this is almost certainly from O'Donnell's personal collection. ... more information

Original pictorial cloth covers with design of a haunted house to front. Red titles to upper board, gilt to spine. Twelve full page plates by Minns. 300pp plus 2pp rear adverts. The book suffered water damage leaving the pages stiff (though they are still bright and unstained). The original covers were carefully prised from the warped boards and laid onto matching new green cloth-covered boards. Although the brittle pages are browned with age, the double-spaced text is uncommonly large for a paperwraps edition, running to 14 pages longer than the original novel.
