Memoirs (Leatherbound Presentation Copy)
Leni Riefenstahl's memoir reflects its author's films: the truth has been obscured by artifice. As a filmmaker, she possessed a flair for framing images: as the author of her own life story, she displays the same talent. By staying alive so long, she has outlived most of her contemporaries and perhaps felt confident that some of her contentions would be uncontradicted, especially her denial of knowledge about the extent of the Nazi horrors. She glorified Nazism as no other artist and for that she is unrepentant. Her life in Nazi Germany was indeed fascinating, and some of that is reflected in this book, however, Riefenstahl is far from the most accurate chronicler of her life and times.
