Description:
1935. AMMOSOV, M.V. O Zheleznodorozhnom Transporte SSSR. 154 pp., profusely illustrated with photographs, photomontages and maps. Oblong folio, publisher's cloth with silver spine, and original slipcase. Moscow: Transzheldorizdat, 1935. One of the finest Russian Constructivist photobooks. Designed by Nikolai Troshin it is a brilliant combination of photomontage and clever use of photography to convey the power of the railways and the vastness of the Soviet Union. In many ways the ultimate Russian photobook. It also contains the almost obligatory portraits of Lenin, Stalin and Molotov among others. This copy is without the metal locomotive that was affixed to the front cover, and the perspex window in the slipcase defective, and is priced accordingly. Very few copies would have seemed to have survived, and only the British Library copy is listed on OCLC. Parr. The Photobook. Volume 1, p.165

Description:
2006. TUERLINCKX, Joelle. One Printed Page 2. Contains "the Biggest Surface on Earth Scale 1:1." A computer generated image on paper, diameter 270 mm. Matted in publisher's cardboard portfolio. New York: Library Council of the Museum of Modern Art, 2004. In her films, sculptures, public projects, and extensive publications, the Belgian Conceptual artist Joëlle Tuerlinckx looks at unlikely spaces and substances to pose formal, perceptual, physical and social conundrums. This work was generated from a sample artifact that the artist calls "original momametamaterial"-a sheet of paper covered with a thick layer of powdery gray photocopier toner. Each unique image, signed and dated to the hour, was produced on a series of desktop laser printers over many days. Each reads as a shimmering, minimalist gray abstraction, printed on a circular sheet of paper, or as a gray void, marked by the shifting moiré patterns that in commercial printing may indicate… Read More

Portland, Oregon: Timothy Ely, 1994. Unique painted manuscript. Timothy Ely's Onomystrya is a visual laboratory, a metaphysical realm, consisting of symbolic images of architecture, floorplans, geometry, perspective, celestial spheres, phantasmagoric spaces, ideograms, horizons and symbolic mathematical writing. The mystical text, labeled "cribiform" by the artist, is a hybrid of scripts by ancient scribes, engravers and calligraphers, Chinese characters, ciphers, Egyptian hieroglyphics, cryptographs, codes and various secret writings. The cribiform is meant to function… Read More
