Printed by DuPont's widow, this book, according to Eberstadt, is even rarer than DuPont's 1885 "Extract " of which it is the bases. DuPont commanded the "Cyane" off the California coast during the Mexican-American War and was instrumental in securing the Californias under U. S. control. The vast majority of the documents here were written by Wabash off Port Royal, S.C., and concern his Civil War service.

Father Garces was one of the indefatigable explorers of the southwest. He made five Entradas or journeys in Sonora, Arizona, and California. All these journeys are described in splendid detail in this work which is enriched by numerous valuable notes.
