Description:
Senlis; Folio, art, Senlis, Signed, First Edition, 1929; Maricourt, du baron André de; This is a loose publication and was never bound. The paper is a heavy stock with some toning and the occasional very light fox spots probably due to the paper maker. The slip case is nearly destroyed and wanting. The book itself is clean cover and tight. There are 14 full page color plates that are exquisitely detailed by the artist Charles-Jean Hallo as well as chapter heading engravings as well (15) plus some smaller vignettes throughout. The publication also has an interesting dedication "To Mr. and Mrs. Emerson with much affection from the Chamberlains, et bon voyage". Signed also by the author du Baron Andre de Maricourt and the artist. A very rare work.
World Catalog of Libraries only finds one copy as shown below:
Senlis: du baron André de Maricourt. Bois originaux de Charles-Jean Hallo. Préface de Madame la comtesse Mathieu de Noailles. André de Maricourt; Anna de Noailles 1929
French Book 149 p.,… Read More

This brief note on Morton and Bliss Stationary and signed by Levi P. Morton with references to William M. Clark, the Secretary State for the State of Colorado, and Mr. Lafe Pence as well as Perry Belmont and J. W. Hinckeley were all probably involved in the Walker Company, a private company floated by Belmont and Hinckeley and others. A very rare document naming several prominent politicians obviously involved in business together. Levi Morton was successful as a financier, establishing the large Wall Street banking firm of L. P. Morton and Company. In the 1870s the firm, by then known as Morton, Bliss and Co., helped refinance the national debt Morton moved into politics and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1878. Special bulletin 10 lists 294 photographs, illustrated. Hans Peter Kraus, also known as H. P. Kraus or HPK, was an Austrian-born book dealer described as "without doubt the most successful and dominant rare book dealer in the world in the second half of the 20th century" and in a league with other rare book dealers such as Bernard Quaritch, Guillaume de Bure and A.S.W. Rosenbach. Kraus specialized in medieval illuminated manuscripts, incunables (books printed before 1501), and rare books of the 16th and 17th centuries, but would purchase and sell almost any book that came his way that was rare, valuable and important. He prided himself in being "the only bookseller in history...to have owned a Gutenberg Bible and the Psalters of 1457 and 1459… Read More
