First edition first impression, no date [1911]; pp. [ii], vii, 267; collation: front blank leaf, half title, with other works 'by the same author' in a framed list to verso, b/w frontispiece plate 'The Never Never Land', illustrated title page, 11 further b/w plates all complete and in fine condition. Original green buckrum boards and spine with extensive gilt decoration, cloth in very good condition with light rubbing to extremities, gilt slightly dulled to the front board, but particularly bright to the spine. Contents good and tight, some scattered foxing to letterpress pages, pronounced to page edges and first and last few pages, neat, light pencil inscription dated April 1912, otherwise no markings, crese to rear free end paper, end papers toned as often. A very good copy. Bibliographical note: The character of Peter Pan first appears in the novel "The Little White Bird" published in 1902. Barrie then adapted the Peter Pan section as a play "Peter Pan" which first opened in 1904 and then developed it as a children’s story (Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens), first published in 1906. The continued success of the play and Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens led Barrie to expand the story further as a novel - Peter and Wendy, first published 1911 and this is now the most popular version and of course Barrie's most famous work.
