About This Item
Milano: Edizioni Charta, 2005. Dublino, Irish Museum of Modern Art, 3 giugno - 11 settembre 2005. Milano, 2005; ril., pp. 143, ill. b/n e col., cm 22x27. Internationally renowned Irish artist Dorothy Cross works in a variety of media including sculpture, photography, video and installation. Since the mid-80s, Cross has conducted witty and inventive investigations of contemporary sexual mores and politics. During the 90s she produced two extended series of sculptural works, using cured cowhide and stuffed snakes respectively, which drew on these animals' rich store of symbolic associations across cultures to investigate the construction of sexuality and subjectivity. Cross has devoted increasing amounts of time to the development of large-scale public events and projects, most memorably the award-winning Ghost Ship, an ethereally illuminated light-ship that haunted Dublin Bay for a few weeks in 1999. This is the first catalogue to documents her extraordinary eouvre from 1988 to the present.
