What does Biblio.com look for in a bookseller?
Biblio.com is committed to the continued success of the tradition of professional independent bookselling. The hallmarks of professional bookselling include an adherence to estabilshed trade practices, such as:
- Use of standard book description terminology
- New: a previously uncirculated copy of a book
- As New: a book in the same condition in which it was published, with no flaws or defects
- Fine: a book free of defect. Similar to As New, but having been previously circulated.
- Very Good: Minor wear, but still attractive and free from of any major flaws or defects
- Good: An average used book, showing some wear.
- Poor: A book with greater than average wear.
- Any flaws of faults should be specifically noted.
- A buyer should be confident that any flaws of faults have been sufficently noted. The practice of describing a book as "Not price clipped" or "Not a book club edition" should not be necessary.
- "Standard" does not sufficiently describe the condition of a book, and should be avoided.
- A knowlege of publishing practices including binding formats and the ability to identify a book club edition of a book, authoritativley identify a first edition based on the specific publisher and date.
- Pricing based on the printing and quality of the book in relation to the current market demand for that copy.
Biblio.com's committment to independent bookselling means that Biblio.com accepts only books and book related material (including ephemera) for inventory added to the site. An upload with non-book related items (such as movies and music) may result in the supension of that bookseller's listing privleges.
Biblio.com expects that prosepective booksellers will have a breadth of experience in the book industry, from experience in selling books professionally, or experience in collecting books avidly.
