Susan Faludi exposed the subtle depiction by the media of preferred roles for women, the continued glass ceiling in the workplace, and marketing that targets and objectifies women as passive consumers. Most pointedly, Faludi addresses political losses through years of a hostile Republican administration, and the need to regroup if the goals of equality that were fought for in the 1970s are to be truly realized.
