Summary
The affectionate but rivalrous friendship between Anna and Isabel becomes fraught with tension when Isabel marries Anna's boyfriend and goes to live with him in Kathmandu, where he leads wilderness treks. A confrontation in the course of one of these expeditions is the climax of this novel, which is set vividly in Isabel's adopted country of Nepal.

Media Reviews
"The novel is something short of unpredictable, and Stoberock's descriptions of local nature and culture, though vivid and elegant, feel unintegrated. But she takes a genuine risk in permitting her heroine to be, by turns, unlikable, hysterical, and wrong; she dares to place complex and not entirely sympathetic characters in tricky, morally ambiguous situations without attempting to redeem them or suggesting that they require redemption...." -- Darcy Cosper
-- Bookforum
"Stoberock writes extremely well; her descriptions of Nepal are as elegantly crafted as her psychological portraits....There's remarkably little passion in this drama involving sexual betrayal and a lifelong friendship that's also a covert struggle for power between two women. For all of its author's evident talent, CITY OF GHOSTS is...overly schematic and as wary as the people it depicts of direct engagement with life's messy ambiguities." -- Wendy Smith

The Other Side of the Story
by Marian Keyes
Life is a circle, and what goes around, comes around. Just ask a trio of unforgettable women in Marian Keyes's enchanting new novel ... Energetic, ambitious, and sexy, literary agent Jojo Harvey combines Jessica Rabbit's body with a mind like a steel trap. As if watching her back while on the corporate ladder and making million-dollar deals wasn't difficult enough, Jojo's having a relationship with her boss. Her married boss. Tall, slender, and blond, bestselling author Lily Wright, one of Jojo's clients, worries about bad karma and the second novel she can't seem to write but must deliver -- she's already spent the advance. Anton, the Love of Her Life, persuaded her to buy their dream house. Events organizer extraordinaire Gemma Hogan was best friends with Lily -- until the willowy blonde stole Anton, a.k.a. the Love of Her Life. Juggling the demands of her newly separated (and desperately needy) mom, Gemma's social life is flatlining -- a mortifying situation that makes for hilarious e-mails to a friend. Tales so funny, they come to the attention of top literary agent Jojo Harvey, who takes Gemma on as a client ... Written in the charming and chatty voice that has become Marian Keyes's signature style, this hilarious and heartwarming new novel proves there are three sides to every story ... especially in the world of publishing!

The Goddesses of Kitchen Avenue
by Barbara Samuel
Trudy Marino never expected her life to turn out perfectly. But at forty-six, she was content with what she did have: her caring husband Rick . . . twenty-plus happy years raising three accomplished kids . . . and a lovely house in the artistic, vibrantly diverse town of Pueblo, New Mexico. But a heartbreaking discovery and a suddenly shattered marriage now has Trudy looking back on the choices she didn’t make—and where she might go from here. Struggling to pick up the pieces, Trudy finds support from a quirky, eclectic group of friends and neighbors—her goddesses of Kitchen Avenue—all of whom are trying in their own unique ways to navigate life’s little surprises. There’s Jade, a fiery social worker who’s finding unexpected strength to deal with her “player” ex-husband, thanks to a most unorthodox passion; Jade’s grandmother, Roberta, who has just lost her husband of sixty-two years—and through memory and piercing grief wonders what to do with the rest of her life; Shannelle, Trudy’s young neighbor and an aspiring writer, determined to realize her talent despite formidable obstacles . . . including the husband who’s afraid her success will be his loss; and Angel, a young, quietly-knowing photographer who makes Trudy uncover a sensuality she never knew—even as he tries to get over the one love he can never really forget. As Trudy faces her future, she discovers that figuring out what to let go and what to keep is just as difficult as moving on. As she weighs what she and Rick still share against new possibilities, she’ll surprise everyone— including herself—as she tries to reconcile the best of both. From an acclaimed voice in fiction, this is a wry, beguiling, heartfelt, and warmly wise novel about second chances, unexpected choices, and the dreams that we all hunger to fulfill.
