Summary
Fifteen-year-old best friends Laurie and Carla can't wait for summer to begin. This year, studious, quiet Laurie vows to be more like the wild reckless Carla. This will be Laurie's summer on the edge. But her attempts to be like Carla are a lot more difficult than she imagines, and when her strict mother discovers that she has been hitchhiking Laurie ends up grounded. As Carla's life spins more and more out of control, Laurie begins to realize the danger of living "the hip life."

Synopses
A fifteen-year-old girl draws back from the false glamour of Los Angeles street life when an oft envied childhood friend becomes sexually promiscuous and overdoses on drugs.
Publisher's Notes
It was supposed to be their perfect summer--beach, boys and the Boulevard. Friends since childhood, Laurie and Carla couldn't be more different. It's not until Laurie rescues her best friend from a biker's party, and an overdose, that she understands what Carla has always used to make herself feel better.

This is the story of three little girls whose childhood adventures are just as real today as when they happened around the turn of the century.
