Summary
In this true story set in 1920s India, two seriously ill young female orphans are cared for by a Christian missionary named J. A. L. Singh. Singh claims that the girls, neither of whom could speak and were approximately 2 and 8 years old, were raised by wolves. The younger girl died within weeks of being taken in by Singh, but the older girl lived with him for eight years before she died of typhoid fever. However, a mystery still lingers about the true origins of the so-called "Wolf Girls," as Singh himself told three different versions of the story of how the girls came to live with him. The authors reveal all they know, but leave it up to readers to draw their own conclusions about the mysterious lives of these two orphaned children.
